Dr Genevieve Wisdom, DVM

Genevieve Wisdom was born in St. Louis but grew up in Pensacola Florida in a large family of 5 siblings. She attended the University of Florida where she received a B.S. in Animal Sciences with a minor in Chemistry, as well as, her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 2010. After graduation Dr Wisdom started her career in the mountains of Georgia at Cornelia Veterinary Hospital, a mixed animal 24 hour emergency facility. In 2012, she moved to New Orleans as an Emergency Veterinarian at Southeast Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care. In 2015 she became the East Bank Veterinarian for Jefferson Parish Animal Shelter. In 2021 she left the shelter world for a return to private practice once again. In April of 2022, Dr. Wisdom struck out on her own and opened Wisdom Animal Hospital at Jefferson Feed Pet and Garden Center. This location has been a perfect fit for the business as she works closely with many rescues in town including Jefferson SPCA located at Jefferson Feed as well. In her personal time, Dr. Wisdom loves scuba diving, live music, great food, and all the unique experiences New Orleans has to offer.

Devin VonderHaar, DVM

Dr. VonderHaar was born and raised in New Orleans. She graduated from Mount Carmel Academy and attended Loyola and UNO before graduating from LSU in 2019 with her Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine. After graduation she worked at Clearview Veterinary, then in 2023 joined the Wisdom Animal Hospital team full time. Her passion for rescue work (she volunteered at ARNO throughout undergrad) made her a perfect fit for our rescue-forward clinic. When not in the clinic, Dr. V goes home to her husband, Ashton, 3-year-old son Spencer, Husky girl Laika, and kitties King Louie XVI and Ellie.

Rachel, Practice Manager

Rachel was born and raised in Jefferson parish, having graduated from the University of New Orleans in 2009 with a bachelor’s degree in Political Science and an ABA certification in Paralegal Studies in 2010. She joins our team after previously working in the legal field for 10 years. She brings a wealth of knowledge, experience, and a can-do attitude to our team. She lives with her husband – Rafael, miniature long haired dachshund – Wolfie, and her terrier mix – Beesly. In her spare time she enjoys volunteering with Animal Rescue New Orleans.

Aubrey, Technician Manager

Aubrey is a Baton Rouge native but first moved to New Orleans in 2016 to pursue a Bachelor’s in Psychology at UNO. Aubrey is now working toward a Master’s in Counseling at Loyola. They started their career with animals in 2017 as a kennel technician and have been a veterinary technician since 2019. A lifelong lover of animals, they spend most of their time adventuring with their Rottie, Georgia Bean.
Bean is often voted the best baby dog there ever was by the rest of the staff. They also enjoy astrology, doing energy work as a Reiki practitioner, and wire-wrapping crystals in their free time.

Erin, Reception Manager

Erin is from Metairie and attended Grace King High School until Katrina hit. She moved to Florida to finish high school and then made her way to Ohio. After graduating from Ohio State University, she returned to the New Orleans area. She’s worked in the medical field for 10 years and was a kennel tech prior to that. Erin lives with her husband Matt and their two rescue dogs Ollie and Remy. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, playing with her pups, and travelling with her husband.

Marlene, Technician

Marlene was born and raised in Jefferson Parish and graduated from Grace King High School. She has always had a love & passion for animals, big or small. While in school Marlene started volunteering for ARNO and the Jefferson Parish Animal Shelter. After graduating from high school in 2018, she started working for the animal shelter full time, even helping to evacuate animals during hurricane season by assisting with 2 ground transports to Detroit, Michigan and Fort Lauderdale, Florida, respectively. She joined the Wisdom Animal Hospital team in 2022. While not in clinic Marlene tends to her 3 dogs – a Lab mix named Deuce, and 2 German Shepherds Rosa & Athena.

Stephen Heinrich, Technician

Stephen Heinrich is a native to the New Orleans area – graduating from Ridgewood Prepatory School and later attending Delgado Community College. Prior to joining our clinic team, he spent a decade with the TSA, where he honed his attention to detail and commitment to safety. He then spent two years working for the Jefferson Parish Animal Shelter and later Zeus’ Place before joining the Wisdom Animal Hospital team in late 2022. Outside of work, Stephen spends his spare time making mead and hanging out with his rescue dog Babette.

Bret,Technician

A native of south Louisiana, Bret has recently returned home after a 20 year stay in Houston, Texas. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from the University of Southern Mississippi in 1996 and attended art school at the Savannah College of Art and Design. Bret lives on the North shore with his wife and two boys, along with a menagerie consisting of three cats, numerous reptiles, and three saltwater aquaria.

Jim, Technician

Jim moved to the New Orleans from Pensacola 28 years ago, when he met his husband, Conway. He has done several different jobs over those years and about a year ago, settled into the petcare industry as a Veterinary Technician. His love of animals drew him to this field and he now feels like he should have been doing this all his life. Some of the clients he assists have nicknamed him the “dog whisperer”, due to his ability to calm them when they come into the door. He is very excited to continue in this field at Wisdom Animal Hospital. Jim and Conway have always had dogs but after losing their last 2 Schnauzers, their hearts were broken and thought they needed time to heal. That was until little Luca from ARNO (Animal Rescue of New Orleans) came in for care after being hit by a car and stole their hearts. Luca became part of their family in July of 2021.

Francesca, Receptionist

Francesca was born and raised and attended high school in Metairie, at Haynes Academy. She currently attends college in New Orleans in hopes of one day becoming a teacher. She currently lives at home with her mom, 5 dogs, 2 guinea pigs, and 3 outside cats. Fran has been in the veterinary world since 2021 and is currently a receptionist. In her free time, she likes to hang out with friends, read, and participate in events for her sorority.
